KEY LARGO FISHING REPORT
5/28/10 Key largo Backcountry/Offshore Fishing
Backcountry has been a popular trip in the last 2weeks.Lots of smaller tarpon close to home in local creeks and cuts in the Key largo area. Farther into the backcountry nice trout on all trips with jacks and ladyfish mixed in keeping the rods bent. Snapper are tight to the banks and in the creeks with a few assorted grouper as well. Redfish action around flamingo has picked up with fish on the flats on the raising tide. Also some big tarpon up to 80 lbs around Flamingo at this time. Black drum are also milling around in some of the shallow bights with some nice fish up to 12 lbs mudding up the bottom. These fish are schooled up tight and hooking up one brings the whole school to the boat so we can all get hooked up.
Offshore fishing has been a good bet with dolphin of all sizes cursing the blue water. Most of the action has been just past the reef line and out a few miles. This week we boated fish up to 25 lbs but I have had reports of fish over 40,the big ones are still around and should hang threw the next month. Black fin tuna have been hitting our flat line lures every trip out, most fish are around the underwater bumps but they are also on the move in open water out to 400 feet. Got a report of a nice white marlin hooked up this past week, not the most common fish in the keys as most are Blue Marlin but you never know what can get in to the baits out there. For the most part seas have been calm and we are running into fish every time out in the last few weeks. The month of June is some of the best offshore fishing the keys has to offer.
Tight lines Capt. Bob.......................
